Pets Best Pet Insurance Review

Pets Best Pet Insurance Free Quote Tool

Overview
When reviewing your pet insurance options, it’s always best to start with a quote to get an idea of cost. Like most pet insurance providers, Pets Best offers a quick and simple online tool for generating an initial quote. It’s safe and easy to use. Only basic contact, location, and pet information is required. It’s okay to give them a real email address. They use it to save your quote and the follow-up messages won’t pester you.

Pets Best Pet Insurance Quote Tool is Easy, But can be Better.

Details

It starts with your zip code right on their home page and requires only a handful of basic information – 7 questions total. We have the detailed list of required data fields below. The whole process takes less than a few minutes but it is a bit clumsy. The video shows you what to expect.

Specifications

Like all the pet insurance provider’s free quote tools, Pets Best only needs a handful of basic information. Their layout is simple enough, but the whole experience could use a bit of polishing. Here is what they ask:

[list_item icon=”fa-check” color=”696868″]Pets Name[/list_item]
[list_item icon=”fa-check” color=”696868″]Pet Age[/list_item]

[list_item icon=”fa-check” color=”696868″]Breed[/list_item]
[/tm_list]

Then the human information is asked. The Phone Number and Referral Code fields show as ‘Optional’, indicating the rest of the fields are mandatory. It turns out that only data in the First Name field, Zip Code (already entered from previous page), and Email fields are necessary. This allows Pets Best to save your quote with this information, as well as follow-up with you in subsequent emails. You can, of course, enter a garbage or fake email address if you prefer, but it’s really not necessary and if you’re truly doing your shopping research we recommend going ahead and entering accurate information for your own convenience.

The form then jumps back to one last question about the pet. This is a bit awkward and should be moved back up with the pet information.

Comparisons

Notably absent from their questionnaire are questions about the size of your pet, as well as whether or not they are spayed or neutered. The limited Breed choice information is also surprising. Perhaps it doesn’t matter, but while it’s true that reputable dog breeders specializing in purebreds work hard to remove negative health traits, there are plenty of less discriminating puppy mills and those types of purebreds tend to be less healthy than your average mutt off the street. Since our dog came from a rescue, and they listed her as a Cattle Dog mix, but as she grew up and looks like a Belgian Malinois, it’s really dealer’s choice on what we want to list her as. We tested entering both breeds, and for some reason the Cattle Dog choice was just a bit more expensive. While this difference was not significant, the same couldn’t be said for our other dog. He was listed at the rescue as a Boxer/Shepherd, but again, upon maturing, he mostly resembles a Rhodesian Ridgeback. Here the choices become more significant. If we choose to list him as either a Boxer, a Ridgeback, or a Shepherd (German), his monthly premiums increase by 68%, 15%, or 38% respectively over just honestly listing him as ‘Unknown/Mixed’. This seemingly arbitrary pricing based on limited information has us concerned.

Summary

Pets Best Pet Insurance Free Quote Tool

Pros:

Pets Best is considered one of the better pet insurance providers and their online free quote tool is quick and easy, requiring minimal information and of course no commitment or requirements in order to get an idea of how much they will charge for your pet. The ability to choose options on the deductible amount and the coverage amount is also nice.

Cons:
Not offering discounts for a spayed or neutered pet, along with no consideration for the size of your pet as well as the arbitrary pricing when guessing the genetic makeup of your rescue mutt leaves us generally unsure about moving forward.

Final Thoughts:
Pet Insurance is a good thing, and we strongly believe all pet owners and their pets will benefit from at least some sort of coverage. Our review of the Pets Best Pet Insurance online quote tool has confirmed what we hoped to find. It’s easy to use and an excellent first step when reviewing your pet insurance options on the market today. We recommend everyone give it a try.
